Texel is an island in the Netherlands, it is the biggest and, now, most populated of the Frisian Island in the Wadden Sea and the most western of this archipelago. It would be the last piece of 'home' that Hudson and his crew of 18 would see before setting off across the North Sea in a boat a little more than 2 1/2 school buses in length.

River Day - Arrival of the Flotilla

Tarrytown Welcomes the Flotilla 5pm - 6pm
Tarrytown Waterfront, West Main Street Tarrytown
(between Hudson Harbor and the Tarrytown Boat Club, there will be signs)

Join us for a party at the river's edge as we welcome the historic Hudson Fulton Flotilla to Tarrytown. The Clearwater and Mystic Whaler will be docked at the Tarrytown Boat club (next to Striped Bass), the John J Harvey Fireboat, Governor Cleveland Tug and Riverkeeper's teaching boat will be docked at the Hudson Harbor bulkhead. Both the Clearwater and Riverkeeper vessel will be welcoming visitors aboard, come and learn about their ecological work and the history of "America's First River".

At 6:00pm our party really gets underway with a performance from Zydegroove, playing their brand of infectious Lousianna Zydeco, a rich musical gumbo derived from Creole, Cajun, French, Caribbean and Scotch/Irish residents of the port city of New Orleans. The lively call-and-response style, driven by rhythmic accordion, is guaranteed to inspire dancing and good times for young and old. There will be food available at the waterfront and a shuttle to ferry people up to the many wonderful restaurants on Main Street.

The evening will close with fireworks at dusk. They will be launched from the GM site and visible from both villages.

Sleepy Hollow Arts Fest and Field Day

Sleepy Hollow Arts Festival and Field Day, featuring the Hudson Valley Writer's Center Literary Festival.
11:00am -4:00pm, Kingsland Point Park, Sleepy Hollow

Join us for a day of family fun on the banks of the Hudson river as we celebrate the diversity of the people of the Hudson River. We'll have arts and craft vendors, food vendors, and a performance from award winning kids musician Zev Haber. The Hudson Valley Writers' Center will be presenting 4 published authors, including Hudson Talbot reading from his book "River of Dreams", he will be joined by three other authors reading from their works in English and Spanish. The Junior League will be running a community poetry tent in which people will compose and share their own poems on the subject of the Hudson River and we'll hear from the winner of "Haiku on the Hudson" a kids poetry competition. Cousins Moran will be playing through out the day and JP Doyle's will be grilling.

OnTrack Sports will be running a free kids soccer clinic, open to all, join us for a game of musical cones, target practice or try the radar gun challenge! The Tarrytown AYSO and OnTrack Sports will be holding the very first Tarrytown vs. Sleepy Hollow Soccer Match and we'll have a craft table at which we'll be inviting kids to decorate the shirts that the players will wear in the game. We'll also have field games, including football throw, balloon toss and tug-o-war featuring some well known faces from our Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. The Sleepy Hollow Light House will be open for tours and is accessible from the park. There is ample parking on site and the park is easily accessible from the Philipse Manor Train Station
